Rust adds a jungle biome - the biggest change to its map in 9 years

Rust, the survival game known for its harsh landscapes, has introduced a new tropical jungle biome to its procedurally generated maps after nine years. This addition brings a whole new level of danger and excitement to the game, with poisonous snakes, crocodiles, ruins, temples, and even swinging from vines in the canopy. The jungle biome introduces tigers and panthers as new threats lurking in the shadows.

The developers at Facepunch have outlined all the changes in a recent update on Steam. The game’s maps have always been procedurally generated, but this new biome adds a significant twist to the existing arctic, temperate, and desert environments. The addition of the jungle biome enhances the survival experience in Rust.

To aid players in navigating this treacherous new landscape, two new weapons have been introduced: a boomerang that returns to the player and a blowpipe for stealthier engagements. The blowpipe can be loaded with different types of darts, including incapacitating and radiation darts to incapacitate or harm enemies. The new wildlife in the jungle is equally unforgiving.

According to the devs, the tiger is one of the most dangerous animals in Rust, known for its stealth and lethality. Players must stay vigilant and observe cues to avoid falling victim to these predators while exploring the jungle.

The ancient temples and ruins hidden in the jungle contain mysteries and loot for players to discover. The diverse plant life in the biome adds to the immersive experience.

“The jungle biome features a large variety of completely new foliage,” says the team. “This includes new types of bushes, undergrowth plants, and a variety of trees, including enormous kapok trees that players can climb and swing from.”

Along with the biome update, other improvements have been made to servers and a new DLC pack featuring an Aztec-themed AK-47 has been released. Rust continues to evolve and offer a unique survival experience for players.

While I may not be revisiting Rust anytime soon, the game has come a long way with its constant updates and additions. For those brave enough to venture into the jungle, now is the perfect time to test your survival skills in this new environment.
