Last weekend, I had the pleasure of taking my seven-year-old daughter, two of her friends and their mum to Royal Lancaster London for the much-anticipated Blooming British Afternoon Tea, created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum. This luxury afternoon tea experience was as magical as it sounds, offering a perfect mix of indulgence, fun and education about the natural world—a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon in London.

Royal Lancaster’s Blooming British Afternoon Tea

From the moment we arrived at the elegant Hyde Café, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the stage for a memorable afternoon. Once through the hotel’s revolving front doors – a guaranteed treat for any kid, the girls were immediately captivated by the nature-inspired theme, particularly the pollinator focus, with treats like Daisy & the Bee and Bee Hive sweets catching their eyes. There were three courses: sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats. The chefs’ attention to detail was remarkable, and the food not only looked beautiful, it tasted exquisite.

For us adults, the bespoke Camellia’s Tea House blends—particularly the Pollinator Blend—were a treat for the senses, featuring floral and honeyed notes that felt entirely fitting for the theme. The staff went out of their way to ensure we were all happy, and there was even a vegan and allergen-free option for those with dietary preferences.

The partnership between Royal Lancaster London and the Natural History Museum is more than just a delicious afternoon tea—it’s a celebration of nature and pollinators. What’s more, it’s just a 30-minute walk through Hyde Park to the museum, and on a beautiful sunny day, there’s nothing better to do.
