Roborock is set to unveil a groundbreaking robot vacuum cleaner at CES 2025, featuring a robotic arm capable of picking up items from the floor.
While robotic arms have been seen on robot vacuums before, they have primarily been used for extending mopping pads for edge cleaning.
The Saros Z70 is the first model to incorporate a robotic arm with a gripper, known as the OmniGrip 1.0, that can lift objects weighing up to 300g, such as socks, tissues, toys, and light shoes.
This robotic arm, with “five-axis” movement, can extend and move in five different directions from a rotating base. When not in use, the arm folds into a compartment, maintaining the slim and low profile of the vacuum for efficient cleaning under furniture.

How does the Saros Z70 pick things up?
The OmniGrip mechanism works by identifying and memorizing objects during the initial cleaning and mapping session, then returning to pick them up in subsequent cleaning sessions. Users can customize settings in the app to specify which objects the OmniGrip should interact with and where they should be placed.
Roborock plans to offer accessories for the Saros Z70, including a bin for rubbish disposal and a cat toy for pet interaction.
We had a chance to witness a live demo of an earlier version of the Saros Z70 in action, which showed promising capabilities. A full evaluation will be conducted once we have the opportunity to test it extensively.
