PSVR 2 Team Shooter 'Firewall Ultra' Gets Update to Attract Newcomers After Year-long Abandonment

Firewall Ultra (2023), the tactical team shooter, has received a surprise update from Sony after developer First Contact Entertainment shut down just four months after its release on PSVR 2. The update includes quadrupling the amount of XP and in-game ‘Crypto’ currency to make it easier for new players to unlock cosmetics and progress in the game.

Speculation has risen as to why Sony has released this update now. Some believe it may be to attract new players, while others suggest it could be in preparation for adding Firewall Ultra to PlayStation Plus for February, a potential sale, or a resurgence of interest in the game.

However, there is also the possibility that Sony is giving Firewall Ultra its final push due to poor sales and low user engagement, potentially leading to its delisting. Despite the updates and improvements made by First Contact Entertainment post-launch, the game is still priced at $40 with no further content updates planned.

Released in August 2023, Firewall Ultra aimed to replicate the success of Firewall Zero Hour (2018) on the original PSVR but faced challenges with its control scheme, gameplay variety, and progression system. Despite efforts to address these issues through patches, the closure of First Contact Entertainment in December 2023 signaled the end of support for the game.
