PSN is back online, Sony apologises

The PlayStation Network experienced a significant outage, impacting all of its online services.
Update 1AM GMT – PSN online functionality has been restored, as confirmed by Sony, who have also apologized for the outage. However, the reason for the servers being down for a day has not been disclosed.
Update 11PM GMT – It has been approximately 24 hours since the initial surge in Down Detector reports, and Sony’s PSN status page still shows a complete outage. While there are some reports of service being restored, online gaming remains uncertain at this time.
This outage is now the longest unscheduled disruption to PSN services since the infamous 2011 hack.
Update 8:30PM GMT – After an outage lasting at least 19 hours without any communication from Sony, some users have now been able to reconnect.
About half of my Destiny clan are back online, while the other half are experiencing issues. Reports on Bluesky suggest that others are also starting to regain access. Although my PS5 can now access the store, Destiny 2 is still having connectivity problems.
Our original reporting continues below.
It appears that PSN went offline just before midnight in the UK, with a significant increase in reported issues on DownDetector. While the reports decreased as people went to bed, PSN was still offline on our PlayStations as of 9:30AM GMT.
The PlayStation Network status page shows red indicators across all categories, including account management, gaming and social features, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct.
I believe the term “some services” is an understatement, Sony…
If you were hoping to engage in online gaming this Saturday morning, you may need to consider using a PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or perhaps watch the 24/7 Tom & Jerry anniversary stream instead. Alternatively, you could opt for a single-player game.
We will continue to monitor the situation and update this page once PSN is operational again.
