The PlayStation 5 console has received a new system software update with some significant features that users have been eagerly awaiting. These include a new Welcome hub, party sharing, and the wide launch of personalised 3D audio profiles.

The Welcome hub is a customizable space available to select players in the US starting today, with a global rollout over the next few weeks. It allows users to personalize widgets and backgrounds on the PS5 home screen, highlighting features like battery monitoring and personal trophy collections. This new feature provides a more engaging experience compared to the old Explore tab, allowing users to set their own background for a personalized touch.

Another new feature is party sharing, which allows users to send chat links to other platforms and invite people directly into a voice chat, regardless of whether they are on your friends list or not. This feature aims to facilitate better communication between players and will be rolled out gradually in the coming weeks.

Additionally, personalized 3D audio for headphones and earbuds is now available, allowing users to tailor the 3D spatial audio to their specific hearing. This feature has been highly anticipated since the launch of the PS5, with previous considerations including ear scanning like Apple and other Bluetooth earbud manufacturers.

There are also updates such as adaptive controller charging on the PS5 Slim and upcoming PS5 Pro, as well as per-user Remote Play settings.

The system update is currently available for download, with some features being gradually released over the next few weeks.
