PS Plus subscribers can play the Concord beta this weekend

Sony’s highly anticipated multiplayer shooter Concord is hosting a beta test this weekend. Originally, the beta was exclusive to those who pre-ordered the game. However, the eligibility has now been expanded to include anyone with a PlayStation Plus subscription. This change may indicate lower than expected pre-order numbers.

Firewalk, the developer, states, “During the Early Access and Open Beta, all 16 of our launch Freegunners will be unlocked and available to play and customize. Whether you prefer sniping, providing support, or diving head-first into battle, our diverse roster of Freegunners offers something for everyone. We will also be revealing our first Vignette during the Early Access Beta, shedding light on the Freegunners of the North Star and their adventures.”

Firewalk and Sony have set high goals for Concord, aiming to revolutionize the multiplayer shooter genre established by Overwatch. The game immerses players in the world of the North Star crew, engaging in high-stakes missions against rival Freegunner crews. With 16 distinct characters, each with unique abilities and equipment, Concord draws comparisons to Overwatch. However, the game distinguishes itself with gear and gadgets that have lasting effects between rounds, such as traps, barriers, and lane-blockers that can shape the outcome of matches.

Furthermore, Concord places a strong emphasis on narrative integration. Weekly cinematic vignettes will contribute to character development and world-building, setting it apart from other games in the genre.

Concord is scheduled for a full launch on 23rd August, available physically and digitally for £34.99 in the UK and $39.99 / €39.99 / ¥4,480 in other regions
