President Joe Biden has addressed concerns about his health and re-election bid, dismissing his poor performance in a recent debate as a “bad episode.” He stated that only “the Lord almighty” could convince him to exit the race, emphasizing his determination to continue running for a second term.
During a television interview on July 5, Biden, 81, discussed his debate performance against Donald Trump, acknowledging that he had “a bad night” and attributing it to feeling “exhausted” and “sick.” Despite calls from some Democratic Party leaders to step down and a decline in his approval rating, Biden remains committed to his campaign.
He declared that he is “running the world” and asserted that he is the most qualified candidate for the presidency. When questioned about undergoing a cognitive evaluation, Biden mentioned that he undergoes cognitive tests daily as part of his routine.
Addressing concerns about his health, Biden stated that his poor performance in the debate was due to feeling unwell, but he emphasized that it was not indicative of a serious condition. He took responsibility for his lack of preparation and acknowledged that Trump had lied multiple times during the debate.
Biden reiterated that he would only withdraw from the race if instructed to do so by the “Lord Almighty.” He avoided direct questions about his mental fitness and cognitive tests, instead focusing on his ability to defeat Trump in the upcoming election.
Indian American Congressman Ro Khanna called for transparency from the White House regarding Biden’s abilities and urged the president to address concerns from the media and voters. ABC News offered a similar interview to Trump, but he declined.
Despite speculation about his candidacy, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to running for re-election during a rally in Wisconsin. He expressed confidence in his ability to defeat Trump again in 2024 and addressed criticisms about his age by highlighting his accomplishments during his time in office.
