PlayStation 5 Pro could be revealed as soon as next month, possibly for $600
Anticipated Release: Speculation surrounding Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro release has been high, with many expecting it to debut in 2024. While Sony has not officially confirmed any details about the upgraded hardware, leaks have provided insights into potential performance improvements. Although not discussed openly at the recent Gamescom expo, attendees have shared details that developers may have inadvertently revealed.
Several developers have hinted at an upgraded PlayStation 5 console being on track for release before the end of the year. This new hardware could be one of the products Sony is set to showcase in the upcoming weeks. According to sources speaking to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, Sony is likely to host a new State of Play stream before the end of September.
While Grubb did not confirm the presence of the PlayStation 5 Pro at the event, it remains a possibility. Grubb also mentioned a potential price tag of $600, possibly even reaching $700.

During last week’s Gamescom 2024 conference in Cologne, Germany, comments from developers hinted at a fast-approaching release of the PS5 Pro. One developer mentioned that the release is imminent enough to affect launch plans for an upcoming game.
Another developer suggested that the new hardware will handle Unreal Engine 5 significantly better than the standard PS5. While Sony has not officially acknowledged the existence of the PS5 Pro, the latest information indicates that many developers already have access to development kits.
The new model is expected to have similar CPU performance to the standard console, but with significant GPU and AI enhancements that developers can utilize to provide a notably improved experience. Graphics performance could see an increase of up to 45%, while ray tracing performance may double or even triple.
Additionally, PlayStation’s “Spectral Super Resolution” is set to enhance image quality through upscaling, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR. This could lead to more extensive use of ray tracing in some titles on the PS5 Pro, as well as higher frame rates and sharper visuals in others.
If these reports prove accurate, Sony would be ahead of its console competitors. Information on a potential Xbox mid-generation refresh is limited, while Nintendo is expected to unveil its next-generation Switch console in the coming months, with a projected release in 2025.
