PlayStation 5 Pro

After much speculation and anticipation, Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, an enhanced version of their current generation gaming console.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is scheduled to be released on November 7th with a price tag of $699.99, and it does not include a built-in disc drive. However, users have the option to purchase a separate disc drive that was released earlier.

Preorders for the PlayStation 5 Pro will commence on September 26th, and here are some of the key features:

The development of the PS5 Pro was centered around passionate gamers and game developers who desired a console capable of delivering even higher quality graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. This goal was achieved through several key performance enhancements.*

  • Upgraded GPU: The PS5 Pro boasts a GPU with 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console, along with 28% faster memory. This results in up to 45% faster rendering for a more seamless gaming experience.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: The inclusion of more powerful ray tracing technology allows for dynamic reflection and refraction of light at double, and sometimes triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution introduces AI-driven upscaling technology that enhances image clarity by adding an exceptional level of detail.

The PS5 Pro delivers stunning graphics at high frame rates. Mark Cerny, the lead architect for PS5 Pro, discusses these key innovations in the accompanying video presentation. This presentation provides an in-depth look at the performance features that set PS5 Pro apart.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which enhances the performance of over 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games on the PS5 Pro. Enhanced Image Quality for select PS4 games improves resolution, and the PS5 Pro supports the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in compatible regions. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

Game creators have embraced the cutting-edge technology of the PS5 Pro, and numerous games will receive free updates to take advantage of its features. Look out for titles like Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, and more, all optimized for the PS5 Pro experience.

The design of the PS5 Pro remains consistent with the overall PS5 product line, with the same height as the original PS5 and width as the current model to accommodate the enhanced specs. Players can opt to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive or switch out console covers when available.

The PS5 Pro seamlessly integrates with existing PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, DualSense Edge, Pulse Elite, and more. The user interface and network services will remain unchanged from the PS5.

The PS5 Pro will be available this holiday season at a price of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (tax included). Each purchase includes a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom. The PS5 Pro is a disc-less console, but users have the option to purchase the Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

Launching on November 7, 2024, the PS5 Pro will be sold at select retailers and through PlayStation’s direct website. Preorders open on September 26, 2024.
