Persona's composer is making a Metal Gear Solid-inspired RPG with a side order of "Great Reset" conspiracy

Renowned Persona and Shin Megami Tensei composer Shoji Meguro is collaborating on a turn-based sci-fi RPG centered around private military companies navigating the aftermath of a nuclear war. Joining him are Ilya Kuvshinov, the illustrator behind character designs for Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045, and Lotus Juice, a rapper known for his contributions to various Personae soundtracks. With such a talented team, Guns Undarkness is expected to boast impressive visuals and captivating music.

While Meguro’s expertise lies in music, the gameplay mechanics of Guns Undarkness remain a mystery. The game’s first demo is set to release on 24th February, offering a glimpse into what players can expect.

Published by Kodansha, Guns Undarkness is set in 2045 and delves into a narrative exploring social disparities in a post-apocalyptic world. The game portrays a future where technological advancements widen the gap between the affluent and the impoverished, creating a stark division. The story unfolds after a global nuclear conflict orchestrated by “primitivist” factions, setting the stage for players to uncover the truth amidst chaos and devastation.

The game’s premise draws parallels to real-world events like the “Great Reset” initiative proposed by the World Economic Forum post-Covid 19 pandemic. This narrative backdrop, inspired by Metal Gear Solid, hints at a complex storyline that intertwines societal issues with gameplay elements. As players navigate through mission maps and engage in turn-based combat, they must strategically utilize cover, attacks, and skills to overcome challenges.

Combat in Guns Undarkness involves managing a squad of four characters, each with unique abilities and skills. Players can tactically position their team members for advantageous combat scenarios, including exploiting enemy weaknesses and utilizing buffs and debuffs. The game also features a reputation system akin to Persona, where characters enhance their abilities by forming strong bonds with their allies.

Guns Undarkness promises a dynamic gameplay experience focused on strategic synergy and character development. As players navigate through the post-apocalyptic world, they must unravel mysteries, confront moral dilemmas, and uncover the truth behind humanity’s resilience in the face of adversity. With an intriguing storyline and engaging gameplay mechanics, Guns Undarkness is poised to captivate players when it launches later this year.
