Paramount Plus cuts popular Spongebob meme for UK viewers
Some Spongebob Squarepants fans have noticed that the UK version available on Paramount Plus has cut out a joke that’s been turned into a popular meme in recent years.
The meme originates from the 2006 season 4 episode “Dunces and Dragons” where Spongebob and Patrick visit a medieval-themed restaurant/performance similar to Medieval Times.
Upon encountering the guard, Spongebob and Patrick remind him to stay in character. However, the guard, tired of his job, contemplates stabbing himself with his spear but decides to do it “someday, but not today.”
This meme is often used to humorously exaggerate reactions to everyday inconveniences or challenges:
The removal of this meme from the UK version may be due to its perceived insensitivity towards a serious mental health issue. It could also be because the guardsman lacks a license for his spear.
Note: AI was used to upscale the image, it is otherwise unaltered.
