Onimusha: Way of the Sword shares video message from key staff

Capcom has recently released a new update on Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the latest addition to the iconic action series.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is an action-packed game that brings a fresh adventure to the beloved Onimusha franchise. Marking the series’ first new installment in almost twenty years, Onimusha: Way of the Sword transports players back to a dark fantasy feudal Japan where samurai combat supernatural forces in cutting-edge battles.

Set in the Sengoku period, a legendary era of conflict in Japan, the games blend history with Japanese folklore to narrate stories of warriors harnessing the mystical power of the Oni. These heroes find themselves in a struggle against the Genma, relentless monsters determined to dominate the world. Initially introduced in 2001, the franchise quickly captivated gamers with its engaging sword-based combat and thrilling “Issen” counterattack mechanics. Known for its captivating narratives that blend historical figures and events with a dark fantasy backdrop, the series has become one of Capcom’s best-selling properties, entering a new chapter.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword unfolds in Kyoto during the early Edo period, a time of relative peace in Japan marred by the emergence of Malice in the ancient city. Transformed into a haunting and eerie place, Kyoto is overrun by the demonic Genma. The debut trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword showcases a lone samurai equipped with the Oni Gauntlet engaging in intense sword fights against these hellish creatures from another realm.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is currently in development for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, with an anticipated release date in 2026.
