NY woman Maria Fraterrigo stranded in Puerto Rico as airline denies her emotional support parrot from boarding: report

An 81-year-old Bronx woman is currently stranded in Puerto Rico after Frontier Airlines refused to allow her emotional support parrot on board for the return flight to New York.

Maria Fraterrigo and her African Gray Parrot named Plucky are facing a travel nightmare as they are unable to return home due to the airline’s restrictions, as reported by ABC7.

“I got no more tears. My mind is blank. Just want to go home. That’s all; I don’t ask for much,” Fraterrigo expressed her distress to the outlet.

While Fraterrigo had no issues traveling with Plucky on her Jan. 4 flight to Puerto Rico from JFK International Airport, she was denied boarding on April 5 at Luis Manoz Marin International Airport in San Jose.

According to reports, a worker instructed her to get rid of the bird, despite Plucky being approved as a service animal for Fraterrigo.

Her son Robert Fraterrigo tried to seek assistance from the airline but only received a refund offer of about $190 without any resolution.

Following the death of her husband, Maria became emotionally attached to Plucky, who provided her comfort and companionship during difficult times.

The airline has stated that they are investigating the situation and are in contact with her family to arrange her return to New York.
