NY Sirens upset Montreal Victoire to keep PWHL playoffs hopes alive

LAVAL, Quebec — The New York Sirens boosted their playoff hopes with a 1-0 victory over the first-place Montreal Victoire on Tuesday night.

Jade Downie-Landry scored the lone goal with 11.7 seconds remaining in the first period, firing a shot off the post and into the net after Gabby Rosenthal won a crucial faceoff.

The goal came just three seconds after Montreal successfully killed off a five-minute power play.

Corinne Schroeder made 16 saves and was rarely tested by the Victoire offense. This marked her third shutout of the season and the game where she faced the fewest shots in a full game this season.

Elaine Chuli stopped 30 shots in her third start following an injury to Victoire’s starting goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens.

New York earned the game’s first power play after Kati Tabin received a five-minute major and game misconduct for a check to the head of Sirens forward Jessie Eldridge.

The Sirens failed to convert on all three power play opportunities.
