Nintendo Switch 2 "cannot come soon enough", analyst says for sales-related reasons, rather than just being desperate to play things on it like the rest of us

The recent unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 has sparked a new wave of excitement among fans. Instead of speculating about when the reveal would happen, everyone is now eagerly anticipating the release date of the Switch 2.

Following Nintendo’s latest financial report, industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto expressed the urgency for the Switch 2 to launch soon. The report revealed that the original Switch’s sales are not meeting expectations, prompting Nintendo to revise its sales forecast for the fiscal year ending in March.

Dr. Toto pointed out that the decline in hardware and software sales indicates that Nintendo overestimated the longevity of the Switch. With a decrease of over 30% in hardware sales and 24% in software sales compared to the previous year, the need for a new console is becoming more apparent.

The latest games released for the Switch, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, were major contributors to sales in 2023. However, the titles launched in 2024, including Super Mario Party Jamboree and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, have not performed as well.

Looking ahead, Dr. Toto emphasized the importance of a strong lineup of games to boost sales. He stated, “Switch 2 cannot come soon enough,” expressing hope that the new console will not be delayed until the fall as some speculate.

As Nintendo works on revitalizing its game slate, fans are eager to see what titles will be available for the Switch 2 launch. Our list of anticipated titles may offer some inspiration for Nintendo’s upcoming releases.
