Niche Games Recap for January 2025
It’s amazing how quickly 2024 flew by, and now we’re already in the new year of 2025. We’re halfway through this decade, and the first half of the 20s brought some great titles, but also faced challenges due to the impact of the pandemic on work worldwide.
Looking ahead to the second half of this decade, let’s start by exploring some exciting January game releases:
- Freedom Wars Remastered
A classic game previously only available on the PS Vita, Freedom Wars is now getting a remastered version with enhanced visual graphics. Players will find themselves in a world where simply being alive is considered a sin, taking on perilous missions in fast-paced RPG combat. Freedom Wars Remastered will be released on January 9th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam). - Blade Chimera
This metroidvania game follows Shin, a demon hunter with no memory of his past, as he battles powerful demon foes alongside a sword named Lux. Set in the year 2222, Synduality: Echo of Ada is a PvPvE multiplayer game where players take on the role of a "drifter" fighting for survival on a dangerous planet. Pilot your "CradleCoffins" and team up with unique AI companions to secure limited resources. The game will be available on January 24th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam). - Eternal Strands
Yellow Brick Games’ debut title, Eternal Strands, is a third-person action-adventure game where players embody Brynn in her quest to protect her people’s home. Battle against massive titans using arcane skills and environmental tools. Eternal Strands is set to launch on January 28th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. - Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero
In this vibrant strategy RPG, players command phantoms on a journey across the ocean world of Ivoire to defeat ghost ships threatening peace. Confining defeated foes allows players to recruit them and create unique tactical strategies. Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero will set sail on January 30th for various platforms. - Sniper Elite: Resistance
Join the French resistance in Sniper Elite: Resistance as they fight against the Nazi regime with intense sniper gameplay. Engage in missions and new propaganda scenarios as a French Resistance fighter.
