‘NFL PRO ERA’ is Pivoting to Live Service This Fall, Launching with New Linebacker Position

NFL PRO ERA, the NFL football VR game series, will be relaunching as a live service game later this year. The new version of the game will be available to previous owners of both NFL PRO ERA (2022) and NFL PRO ERA II (2023).

The release is scheduled for sometime this Fall, with the base game offering free play, full season mode, exhibition mode, updated rosters, and uniforms. Previous owners will receive the new base game for free, with the option to purchase the 2025 Edition Upgrade at a discounted price for additional content.

The paid 2025 Edition will introduce new abilities, such as playing on defense as a linebacker and online multiplayer. The linebacker position will initially be available in single player simulation mode at launch, with full head-to-head multiplayer coming in a later update.

Additional content packs will be available for $5 throughout the season. The game will also feature a new Social Sports Complex hub for player interaction, challenges, and “smarter” AI.

NFL PRO ERA is compatible with Quest, SteamVR headsets, PSVR 2, and Pico headsets. The availability of the new 2025 edition on these platforms this Fall is yet to be confirmed, with Quest support being the only platform confirmed so far.

The shift to a live service model comes after a recent investment led by Google Ventures, providing $20 million in Series A funding to help expand the company’s catalog of sports-focused VR titles.
