Netflix now offers dialogue-only subtitles

Netflix has recently unveiled a new feature for subtitles that eliminates the need to read audio cues such as “door slams” or “phone rings.”
The new dialogue-only subtitles can be activated by navigating to “Audio” and then “Subtitles” on Netflix. Users will now see an option labeled “English” instead of “English (CC),” indicating that only spoken words will be included.
This new option complements the existing closed captions (CC) that provide both spoken dialogue and important audio cues for the deaf and hard of hearing community.
The dialogue-only subtitles offer a more streamlined viewing experience by displaying only dialogue without additional context.
This feature is a response to the increasing popularity of subtitles, with nearly half of all viewing hours in the U.S. spent with subtitles turned on, according to Netflix.
Dialogue-only subtitles are currently available for the latest season of “You” and will soon be rolled out to other new Netflix original titles in all languages offered by the streaming service.
