The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai (CSMIA) has reported a significant increase in passenger traffic for the first quarter of FY2024-25, showing a 7% rise compared to the same period last year. The airport served over 13.46 million passengers in Q1 FY2024-25, up from 12.49 million in Q1 FY2023-24.

During April to June 2024, the airport welcomed 3.7 million international and 9.7 million domestic travelers. May 18, 2024, marked a new record with 163,166 passengers in a single day. This busy period witnessed high traffic volumes and notable airline performances, emphasizing CSMIA’s significance as a major aviation hub.

In April 2024, there were 4.3 million passengers, followed by a 7.9% increase in May to 4.7 million, and June concluded with 4.39 million passengers. Throughout this period, CSMIA managed 59,775 domestic flights and approximately 21,519 international flights.

Among domestic routes, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad were the top destinations with over 6.9 million passengers collectively. Internationally, Dubai led with over 617,953 travelers, followed by Singapore and London. The top five international destinations accounted for more than 1.5 million passengers.

IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara emerged as the leading airlines in market share for both domestic and international routes. IndiGo held a strong 50% share in the domestic market, serving 4.99 million passengers in the quarter. The Middle East played a significant role, representing nearly half of all international traffic. This trend was evident in both April and May with 49%, and slightly lower at 47% in June, followed by traffic to the Asia Pacific and European regions.

The increase in passenger numbers and aircraft movements reflects the growing demand for air travel. Mumbai airport’s strategic location and efficient services have made it a preferred choice for many travelers.
