MultiVersus weekly reset adds new Rift, free character rotation

The latest MultiVersus weekly reset is now live, offering new fighters and a Friday the 13th themed Rift. Like other free-to-play games, MultiVersus features a rotating cast of characters that players can use without purchasing. However, to unlock these fighters permanently, players must complete specific challenges or buy them.
The current weekly Preview Fighter Rotation will be available until June 11, 2024, and includes the following MultiVersus combatants:
- Tom & Jerry
- Jason
- Rick
- Harley Quinn
Developer Player First Games has introduced a new Rift in the Warner Bros. crossover fighting game, featuring PvE battles centered around Friday the 13th’s Jason Vorhees. Rifts were added as part of the MultiVersus relaunch to provide more content for players interested in non-competitive gameplay.
According to the studio: “Rifts mode allows all players to enhance their skills in MultiVersus outside of competitive PVP modes. Each Rift offers a series of battles or challenges based on a specific theme, such as The Joker infiltrating the Batcave or Batman and Velma teaming up to determine the best detective. These themes are organized around seasonal “Attunements,” like Chaos, featuring the Clown Prince of Crime in Season 1. Each Rift is designed to be unique to MultiVersus every season.”
Following an open beta in 2022, MultiVersus disappeared as Warner Bros. and Player First Games made improvements. While the revamp has its benefits, there are mixed reviews on aspects like combat tempo and monetization strategies pushing players to buy content instead of grinding for it.
Despite the challenges, there is potential for MultiVersus to thrive in the platform fighting genre, especially with the end of Nintendo’s support for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
