Motorola Razr 60 Ultra Review: Hands-On

I have a soft spot for flip phones. Perhaps I’m just nostalgic for the classic handsets of the 2000s, but there’s something undeniably cool about them.
When it comes to the modern era of folding phones, Samsung and Motorola are the key players in the flip phone market. While Samsung may have more brand recognition, Motorola has been making waves with its devices.
Last year, we named the Razr 50 Ultra the best flip phone of the year, surpassing the Galaxy Z Flip 6. In 2025, Motorola has upped the ante with the new Razr 60 Ultra, positioning it as a strong competitor to traditional flagship phones, at least on paper.
After getting hands-on experience with the Razr 60 Ultra at the launch event in New York, it’s clear that Motorola has solidified its position as the top choice for flip phone enthusiasts. Here are the key takeaways from my time with the phone:
What a finish
The Razr 60 Ultra offers a range of unique finishes, with the standout being the ‘Scarab’ Alcantara finish. This marks the first time this material has been used on a phone, providing a soft and luxurious feel. However, it does tend to attract more dust and dirt compared to other materials.
Another eye-catching option is the ‘Mountain Trail’ finish, crafted from FSC-certified wood. Not only does this add a touch of natural beauty to the phone, but it also offers enhanced grip and protection.
Camera downgrade? Think again
While the Razr 60 Ultra may seem to have inferior camera hardware compared to its predecessor, the addition of a 50Mp ultrawide lens compensates for the absence of a dedicated telephoto lens. Motorola’s Moto AI technology enhances the zoom capabilities of the main lens, producing quality results comparable to optical zoom.
With the inclusion of the ultrawide lens for macro shots, the Razr 60 Ultra’s camera system offers greater versatility and improved performance over its predecessor.
Built-in AI, literally
The Moto AI features on the Razr 60 Ultra provide convenient access to a range of AI-powered functions, with a dedicated physical button for quick activation. Features like Catch Me Up, Pay Attention, and Next Move offer practical and intelligent solutions for everyday tasks.
Next Move stands out for its ability to analyze on-screen content and provide relevant suggestions, showcasing the power of AI integration on the device.
True flagship performance
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and equipped with 16GB of RAM, the Razr 60 Ultra delivers exceptional performance that rivals top-tier smartphones. This upgrade positions the Razr as a strong contender in terms of processing power and gaming capabilities.
Dust protection…sort of
The Razr 60 Ultra boasts improved dust resistance with an IP48 rating, offering protection against larger particles. While not as robust as IP68 ratings found on non-folding phones, this enhancement addresses a key design flaw from the previous model.
Putting on a great display(s)
The Razr 60 Ultra features a 4-inch external pOLED cover screen and a 7-inch internal AMOLED display, both offering vibrant colors and sharp detail. The OLED panels provide an immersive viewing experience ideal for various activities like watching videos and playing games.
Don’t forget about the battery!
Equipped with a 4700mAh battery and faster charging speeds, the Razr 60 Ultra offers improved battery life and convenience. The device can be quickly charged with wired and wireless charging options, making it a versatile companion for daily use.
Overall, my initial impressions of the Razr 60 Ultra are positive, and if my experience continues to be favorable, I would confidently recommend it to others. The device will be available for purchase starting April 24 in select countries.
