Morgan’s new Supersport is a charming British classic to rival Porsche

British sports car manufacturer Morgan has recently introduced its latest model: the Morgan Supersport. This new model combines the fun and stylish charm that the brand is known for, with practical features that make it easier to use in everyday life.

While Morgan cars have a loyal following among classic sports car enthusiasts, they are often seen as weekend vehicles rather than daily drivers. However, the Supersport aims to change that perception by featuring a powerful BMW engine, improved handling for comfort, and reduced drag thanks to advanced computer-aided design. The goal is to position the Supersport as a viable alternative to popular sports cars like the Porsche 911.

Matthew Hole of Morgan explained to TopGear.com, “We’ve really focused on making this a car that you can jump in and drive with excitement. We have included features that make you want to drive it all the time, not just occasionally.”

The Supersport is equipped with a 335bhp BMW B58 six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, offering a 0-60mph speed of 3.9 seconds, making it faster than the brand’s previous model, the Plus Six. Additionally, customers have the option of a soft fold-back roof for open-air driving or a carbon fiber hardtop for added weather protection and rigidity. The car also features new lightweight wheels with Michelin tires.

One of the key upgrades in the Supersport is its focus on practicality for daily use. It includes an electronically opening trunk with storage space, a wireless phone charger in the central console, and a hands-free phone system. Classic Morgan elements such as the use of ash wood for the bodywork frame and distinctive round headlights remain, preserving the iconic design.

The base model of the Supersport is expected to be priced around £100,000 ($130,000), with only a limited production of a few hundred cars per year.
