Monster Hunter Wilds joins GeForce Now, providing a sneaky Steam Deck performance workaround

Running Monster Hunter Wilds on the Steam Deck may seem futile, but with Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming platform, there is a potential solution. By streaming the game, players can experience Wilds on the handheld device at a smooth 60fps, offering a different gaming experience.

GeForce Now offers different subscription tiers for streaming, providing access to high-performance rigs for a monthly fee. This service syncs with your existing Steam library, allowing you to stream games like Wilds without additional costs. Testing Wilds on the Steam Deck using the Ultimate subscription resulted in consistent performance near the 60fps cap, even with ray tracing enabled.

Comparatively, running Wilds on the Steam Deck itself may result in lower performance, with an average of 25fps at lower settings. While there is a slight input lag when streaming, the overall experience is smooth and responsive, making it a viable option for playing Wilds on the go.

However, cloud gaming setups like GeForce Now require a stable Wi-Fi connection for optimal performance. Any interruptions in the connection can lead to higher latency and impaired visuals. This limitation means that playing Wilds on the Steam Deck outside of a reliable Wi-Fi environment may not be ideal.

While streaming may not completely solve the Steam Deck’s performance issues with Wilds, it does offer a convenient way to enjoy the game at home. Additionally, the flexibility to stream games like Wilds on different devices adds to the overall gaming experience. Small victories in the world of gaming, indeed.
