Michigan teen, John Agnello, rescues driver who plunged into a Lake Saint Clair

A brave teenager risked his life on Tuesday to rescue a driver who crashed into a lake in Michigan.

Fifteen-year-old John Agnello was fishing with his mother near the Lake Saint Clair marina when he witnessed the car plunging into the water.

“I just see a car just go flying in the air. It was about 15 yards into the water, already that far,” Agnello told WLIX 10.

Without hesitation, the quick-thinking teen and another man jumped into the water and rushed towards the sinking car, where a woman was trapped inside.

The water pressure on the car door made it difficult to open, so they instructed the woman to lower her windows before the car submerged completely, allowing them to pull her to safety.

After rescuing the woman, Agnello bravely entered the submerged car to ensure there was no one else inside.

“The only part that kind of scared me was I was under the water inside the car because I was feeling around in there. It kind of got hard to get out, but everything was fine,” Agnello recalled.

Thankfully, the car was empty when Agnello checked inside.

The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the police.

The authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, as per St. Clair Shores police.

Despite his heroic actions, Agnello remains humble, attributing his response to how his family raised him.

“I think that’s just how my family raised me, just to take action and all that stuff,” he said.
