Mets’ Jose Quintana struggles through rare rough outing

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Jose Quintana had a tough afternoon on Sunday, struggling with control and pitch count against the Angels.
Despite being the team’s best starting pitcher since mid-June, Quintana found himself in trouble early in the game, allowing runners on base and driving up his pitch count.
In the end, he managed to keep the Mets in the game, but it was a frustrating performance as he allowed three earned runs on three hits, four walks, and a hit batter over five innings.
Quintana admitted to struggling with his mechanics and command during the game, particularly with his breaking ball, despite feeling physically great.
Over his last nine starts, Quintana has posted a 2.37 ERA, including a strong outing against the Twins in his previous start.
However, on Sunday, he faced difficulties early on, falling into a 2-0 hole in the second inning and allowing a leadoff triple in the third that led to the Angels’ third run.
