Meta is Experimenting with a Home Theater Environment for Quest's Horizon OS

Meta has a solution for watching your own content on Quest, but it’s not as immersive as a home theater experience. Now, the company is exploring the idea of creating a home theater environment for Horizon OS.

Mark Rabkin, VP of Horizon OS and Quest, mentioned in a recent X post that Meta is working on developing a home theater environment for Horizon OS, which will be used on third-party headsets in the future.

Rabkin stated that the team is experimenting with lighting, effects, and sound to create the best possible experience. This isn’t the first time Meta has ventured into creating a theater environment, with previous initiatives such as Oculus Cinema and Oculus Video.

Meta’s previous attempts at creating a home theater experience didn’t fully meet user expectations, leading them to explore other options like Bigscreen and Skybox. However, Meta’s upcoming theater environment may offer a more seamless experience for watching personal content.

While Meta’s new theater environment may not integrate all streaming services into one platform, having a dedicated space for immersive content consumption could be a game-changer for Quest users.
