Matt Gaetz’s dad was surprised by his son being picked as Trump's AG

President-elect Donald Trump’s surprising decision to nominate his former Florida congressman, Matt Gaetz, as attorney general left Gaetz’s father, Don Gaetz, also known as “Papa Gaetz,” shocked. Don Gaetz revealed to Politico that he and his wife were caught off guard by the news, only finding out when Matt called to inform them about the nomination.

Don Gaetz, 76, mentioned that Matt was not actively seeking the position and that the nomination came as a surprise. The news of Gaetz’s nomination sparked criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, with doubts about his confirmation.

Despite the controversy surrounding Gaetz, he resigned from the House immediately after Trump’s announcement, putting an end to the House Ethics Committee’s investigation into allegations against him.

Don Gaetz defended his son against the allegations, mentioning that Matt has been investigated by multiple agencies over the years, including the House Ethics Committee and the Department of Justice, without any charges being brought against him. He dismissed the claims as politically motivated.
