Marvel pauses development on three TV shows, including Nova and Strange Academy

Marvel Television has decided to put on hold the development of three television projects.

According to Deadline, Marvel has paused the progress of Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. These projects were not officially approved, and the studio has shifted its focus for the time being.

It’s important to note that these shows are not canceled and could potentially be revisited in the future.

Marvel is adjusting its approach in the aftermath of industry changes. While many projects are in development with assigned showrunners, not all of them will necessarily move forward.

During a May 2024 earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger mentioned a shift towards quality over quantity for Marvel.

“We’re gradually reducing the number of TV series to about two per year from the previous four, and scaling back our film output to two or maximum three per year,” Iger stated via Variety.

Among the paused projects, Nova had made the most progress. Marvel Studios had hired Sabir Pirzada to work on the series in March 2022, focusing on the character Richard Rider, also known as Nova. Pirzada was later replaced by Ed Bernero in December 2024. The series was intended for release on Disney+.

The other two shows, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc., were also rumored to be in the works. Strange Academy centered around a school founded by Doctor Strange to teach children with supernatural abilities. Terror, Inc. followed the antihero Terror, who has the ability to use body parts of others for personal gain.

Marvel’s 2025 lineup of live-action TV shows kicks off with Daredevil: Born Again on March 4. Ironheart premieres in June, followed by Wonder Man in December.
