Major Indian airports cut ties with Celebi following security clearance revocation, BA

In response to the BCAS directive, leading Indian airports have terminated ground handling agreements with Çelebi Airport Services India Ltd. The Union Civil Aviation Ministry revoked Çelebi’s security clearance due to national security concerns.

The Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports, managed by Adani Airport Holdings, confirmed the termination of Çelebi’s concession. Operations will continue smoothly with employees transitioning to new handling agencies.

Delhi International Airport Limited also ended its association with Çelebi and is working with alternate providers to ensure continuity in services.

Çelebi Aviation India clarified its corporate neutrality amidst calls for a boycott. Despite this, sentiment within India’s travel ecosystem remains unchanged.

The termination of Çelebi’s operations aligns with a broader national sentiment against Turkish-linked companies. Multiple travel trade associations have urged a boycott of Turkish and Azerbaijani travel products.

As India’s aviation industry prepares for increased travel, the quick restructuring is seen as a test of India’s airport resilience.

Both Adani Group-managed and GMR Group-managed airports have assured passengers of uninterrupted services during the transition to new ground handlers.

The announcements come at a time of rapid expansion in India’s aviation infrastructure, showcasing the maturity of the aviation ecosystem.
