Lords of the Fallen Version 2.0 adds free Friend’s Pass, shared co-op progression and more

CI Games has recently rolled out Lords of the Fallen Version 2.0, a significant update to the game that includes enhancements to combat, characters, introduces shared progression in co-op, and introduces a free Friend’s Pass scheme for the game.
To celebrate this milestone update, the game is currently available at a steep discount of 67-72% during the PlayStation Spring Sale until April 23rd, until April 24th on Epic, and until May 1st on Xbox and Steam.
With the introduction of the free Friend’s Pass, players only need to purchase one copy of the game in order to play co-op, allowing them to invite anyone they choose to join them, similar to the scheme in games like It Takes Two and Split Fiction. A special Friend’s Pass version of the game is now accessible on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, offering offline access to the tutorial and character creator, as well as enabling full crossplay co-op.
Furthermore, the shared progression in co-op now saves all main story progress for both players starting a new game together, as long as they have defeated a similar number of main bosses. Both players retain their loot, 100% vigor, and can revive each other during an online session. The previous co-op progression style is also available for those who prefer it.

These additions are already significant, but CI Games has been continuously improving the gameplay since the last update, version 1.7, was released in December. Version 2.0 has enhanced combat and movement with smoother animations, improved weapon response, lock-on feature, evasions, and more. Additionally, there is now a dedicated jump button for better platforming.
The character creator has been revamped, leading to an improved tutorial, and there are modernized UI and HUD elements throughout the game.
“Version 2.0 is the ultimate edition of Lords of the Fallen and includes over 50 post-launch updates,” stated Marek Tymiński, CEO of CI Games. “The Free Friend’s Pass, shared progression co-op, and more are our way of expressing gratitude to our community. The game has evolved far beyond our initial expectations when we launched it in 2023 – now is the perfect time for new players to join our franchise and for current fans to experience Lords in a fresh and exciting way.”
Lords of the Fallen received mixed reviews upon its original release in 2023, despite its unique twinned world mechanic and aspirations to be a more distinctive game than its 2014 predecessor. In our Lords of the Fallen review, Jason expressed his frustration, stating, “I really want to enjoy Lords of the Fallen, but it’s the first game this year that has truly irritated me. I adore the Soulslike genre more than any other, but this game failed to learn from the original Lords of the Fallen and either completely forgot those lessons or misunderstood them so severely that it seems to have skipped a class.”
A sequel is currently in development, with an expected release in 2026, prompting CI Games to conclude their ongoing support for this title and shift their focus entirely to the next installment.
