Las Vegas casino The Mirage must give away $1.6 million before closing

A Las Vegas casino is set to award $1.6 million in prizes within the next week before permanently closing its doors, as mandated by Nevada law.

The Mirage, a fixture on the Vegas strip for over 30 years, will cease operations on July 17, as reported by ABC7.

Prior to its closure, the casino is required to distribute the substantial cash prizes from unclaimed progressive jackpots on slot machines and games.

Under Nevada state law, any outstanding progressive jackpots must be paid out to players and gamblers before a casino shuts down, according to the news outlet.

The Mirage has scheduled cash giveaways with guaranteed winnings from July 9 to July 16.

Starting from the first Tuesday to Thursday, the casino will award $200,000 in guaranteed winnings on slot machines each day.

On Friday and Saturday, the prize amount will increase to $250,000 before decreasing to $100,000 on July 16.

A total of $1.2 million will be given out in slot machine prizes, with an additional $400,000 awarded from table game jackpots.
