Kolkata airport starts self-baggage drop kiosks to cut check-in queues, BA
The Kolkata airport is introducing self-baggage drop kiosks to eliminate the long queues at check-in counters. Passengers can now tag their bags, deposit them on the conveyor belt, and proceed directly to security check, saving 5 to 20 minutes of waiting time depending on flight schedules.
The self-baggage drop kiosks are currently available for IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express, serving over 80% of domestic flights from Kolkata airport. This new facility aims to further reduce queues along with mandatory web check-in and facial recognition tech Digi Yatra.
Arindam Mukherjee, a tech university teacher, praised the system for allowing him to deposit his luggage within 45 seconds, bypassing a long queue. The self-baggage drop kiosks streamline the process for passengers, ensuring smooth travel through the airport.
If baggage weight exceeds the airline’s allowance, passengers can manually check in their bags and pay the excess weight charges.
