It was only a matter of time: someone has gotten Doom to run on the Nintendo Alarmo

It seems like wherever there’s a device, someone has managed to install Doom on it, and that’s exactly what has happened with the Nintendo Alarmo.
Nintendo surprised everyone last month by unveiling a new piece of hardware; it wasn’t the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, but rather an alarm clock. Yes, the Nintendo Alarmo is a real product, and it’s quite quirky, to say the least. An alarm clock solely dedicated to Nintendo sounds and music? One can only imagine the association it creates with waking up to your favorite Mario tunes in a panic! It was an unexpected tech reveal from Nintendo, but it had one feature that sealed its fate: a screen, which means it could potentially run Doom. And now, someone has made it happen.
The individual responsible is GaryOderNichts, a self-professed Wii U reverse engineer, who shared a video on his personal Twitter account showcasing the classic first-person-shooter running on an Alarmo. It’s not just a matter of using it as a display screen, as Gary demonstrates using the Alarmo’s twisty knob for navigation, rotating it to move left or right, and utilizing the device’s buttons to shoot. It may not be the smoothest experience, but hey, it’s Doom on a Nintendo Alarmo – what more could you ask for!
This is just the latest addition to the long list of devices that can run Doom, as it has become a tradition to get the game running on various unconventional items – including a lawnmower, a Lego brick, and even the simple Notepad software. It’s safe to assume that there will be more innovative ways to run Doom in the future, bewildering future generations or any extraterrestrial beings that come across our remnants.
