Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Israel’s internal security chief, Ronen Bar, of conducting an investigation into far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir without his approval on Monday, March 24, 2025.
“The claim that I authorized Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar to gather evidence against Minister Ben Gvir is completely false,” Mr. Netanyahu stated.
His statement was in response to reports that Bar’s agency had been investigating far-right influences within the police force and their connections to Ben Gvir.

“The leaked document, which includes a direct order from the Shin Bet chief to gather evidence against political leaders, echoes oppressive regimes, undermines democracy, and seeks to destabilize a right-wing government,” the statement continued.
Ben Gvir responded by calling Bar a “criminal” and a “liar” who was attempting to cover up his alleged conspiracy against democratically elected officials, even after the evidence was made public.
On Friday, Israel’s Supreme Court intervened to halt the government’s decision to dismiss Bar, causing further political turmoil in the country.
This occurred shortly after the government, known for its right-wing stance, supported Netanyahu’s proposal to remove Bar from his position, citing a loss of confidence in his leadership.
