April 16, 2025: There is a major outage impacting Spotify, which began at 1pm BST (8am ET). The resolution time for this issue is currently unknown.

Update 5pm BST: Although Spotify has not issued an official update, the service appears to be functioning for most users, while some may still be encountering difficulties. I was able to stream music and use the search feature without any issues.

According to Downdetector, a reputable source for service status updates, tens of thousands of users in both the UK and US have reported problems.

The Spotify Status account on X confirms that the company is aware of the issues and is currently investigating them.

An update at 3:39 BST mentions that Spotify is actively working to resolve the outage, with no specific timeframe provided, and assures users that it is not related to a security breach.

A representative from Spotify informed TechRadar that “the issue with Search has been resolved and an update has been initiated for all users,” however, it seems to be a larger issue at hand.

While some users are able to play downloaded music, others, like myself, were unable to even load Spotify in a desktop browser. An error message indicated “upstream request timeout”.
