Irate driver chokes MTA bus driver in NYC road rage attack: officials

An angry driver assaulted an elderly MTA bus driver in a road rage incident in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, as reported by police and transit officials.

Shevaughn Legall, 25, attacked the 68-year-old B26 driver on Halsey Street near Lewis Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant after their vehicles collided in a minor accident at around 9:20 a.m., according to authorities and sources.

Legall got into an argument with the bus driver, then proceeded to punch him and choke him, causing injuries to his jaw and neck, as stated by the NYPD and MTA.

Legall was apprehended at the scene and charged with second-degree assault, strangulation, and criminal obstruction of breathing, as per the police.

Although the NYPD could not confirm if the attack occurred on or off the bus, NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow mentioned in a statement that the suspect leaped over a barrier.

“The individual who jumped over a barrier to brutally attack a bus operator just trying to serve the people of Brooklyn exhibited complete disregard for humanity, decency, and the safety of passengers on that bus,” Crichlow stated. “Is this level of violent disrespect for a public servant acceptable?”
