iPhone XS and iPhone XR Set to Miss Out on iOS 19 Upgrade

Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 update will exclude three older iPhone models from receiving the upgrade. The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, all released in 2018, will not be supported by the new operating system set to roll out in September.

Despite initial rumors suggesting otherwise, a recent report from a reliable source indicates that these three models will not make the cut for iOS 19. Currently, they are running on iOS 18, which marks the seventh version of Apple’s operating system for these devices.

This decision by Apple signifies a significant shift in their support strategy, as these phones have received extensive updates and support over the years. The move to exclude them from iOS 19 reflects a new level of support from the tech giant.

The next iPhone on the chopping block

In comparison, Google and Samsung offer seven years of software support for their latest models, such as the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25. The iPhone XS and iPhone XR will reach this milestone by September, with Apple likely to provide security updates for a few more years.

As a result, the iPhone 11 series will become the oldest devices compatible with iOS 19. If you own one of these older models, it might be time to consider upgrading. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Air in late 2025 and the iPhone 18 with enhanced camera features in 2026.
