iPhone 16 Adds Spatial Photos and Spatial Audio Capture for Vision Pro

Apple has unveiled the latest iPhone 16, which now features spatial photos and audio capabilities, bringing it in line with Vision Pro’s capture capabilities.

During the company’s recent event, Apple introduced a range of products, including the AI-infused iPhone 16 series, the new Apple Watch Series 10, and AirPods 4. While there were no major surprises for Vision Pro, the addition of spatial features to the iPhone 16 is a significant development.

The iPhone 16 features a new pill-shaped camera design, enhanced AI capabilities, and new buttons like Action and Camera Control. While the display remains at 60Hz (120Hz on iPhone 16 Pro), there are incremental improvements across the board.

One of the key upgrades to the iPhone 16 line is the ability to capture spatial photos and audio, in addition to spatial video like the iPhone 15 Pro. Vision Pro is capable of these functions as well, although it is not as portable as a smartphone.

For Vision Pro users, all photos can now be spatialized following a recent update that automatically converts 2D images to 3D with impressive results.

Furthermore, spatial videos captured on the iPhone 16 can be viewed on other XR devices that support the MV-HVEC video codec, such as Meta Quest.
