IO Interactive Ends Collaboration with Conor McGregor Following Court Ruling

IO Interactive has terminated its partnership with MMA fighter Conor McGregor after a court ruling in the Irish High Court found him guilty of assaulting and raping a woman in 2018.

Announcing the decision on social media, IO stated that they will be removing all content featuring McGregor from Hitman: World of Assassination effective immediately:

“In light of the recent court ruling involving Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has decided to end its association with the athlete. We take this matter seriously and will be removing all content related to Mr. McGregor from our platforms starting today.”

McGregor’s voice and likeness were used for a character known as The Disruptor, an Elusive Target in the Hitman games. The Disruptor mission, which debuted in July and was scheduled to run until December 8th, is now being removed from the game.

Additionally, a Disruptor DLC pack featuring The Ostentatious, an arcade contract with the character, as well as outfits and items for the Freelancer mode HQ, will no longer be available.

In the recent civil case, McGregor was found guilty by the jury of sexually assaulting a woman named Ms. Hand in a Dublin hotel six years ago. While he will not face jail time, McGregor has been ordered to pay €248,000 in damages.

McGregor has expressed his intention to appeal the verdict.
