IndiGo likely to start flight operations from Pakyong Airport from October: Official, ET TravelWorld

IndiGo Airlines will likely commence flight operations from Pakyong Airport in Sikkim starting October next month, as per an official statement on Monday. The director of Pakyong Airport, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, mentioned that the airline and AAI are currently assessing the commercial viability and analyzing the data. IndiGo is planning to operate flights from Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Hyderabad to Pakyong Airport, which is expected to enhance tourism in Sikkim.

The director of Pakyong Airport also revealed that Nepal’s Buddha Air is interested in launching daily flight services from Kathmandu to Pakyong. However, the approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation is still pending. Additionally, discussions are ongoing with airlines like Blade Air and Jetwing to initiate flight operations from Pakyong Airport within this year.

“There is a possibility of commencing operations soon as the Sikkim government is currently reviewing Blade Air’s proposal, while Jetwing has already been allocated a flight from Guwahati to Pakyong under the Regional Connectivity Scheme of the Indian Government, with plans to start operations by November this year if conditions are favorable,” stated the Pakyong Airport director. Currently, only SpiceJet operates flights to and from Delhi and Kolkata to Pakyong Airport.
