India-U.S. defence acceleration ecosystem summit to be held at Stanford University next month

The upcoming third edition of the India-U.S. Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) Summit is scheduled to take place at Stanford University in California in early September. The summit will bring together top defence leaders from both countries to collaborate on enhancing cross-border defence innovation ecosystems.

Key leaders, including former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, will address the summit hosted by the U.S. India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF) in conjunction with Stanford University’s Gordian Knot Centre for National Security Innovation and the Hoover Institution on September 9 and 10.

INDUS-X Summit aims to strengthen advanced technology partnerships in defence innovation by connecting Indian and American leaders in defence innovation from startups, venture capital, academia, accelerators, and industry. The event will provide opportunities for co-production and investments in both nations.

The theme for the 3rd INDUS-X Summit is “harnessing investment opportunities to enhance cross-border defence innovation ecosystems” and will highlight the role of private capital/investments in the defence innovation sector.

Launched in June 2023, INDUS-X aims to expand strategic technology partnership and defence industrial cooperation between India and the U.S. Governments, businesses, accelerators/incubators, investors, and academia are all involved in this initiative.

INDUS-X is led by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the Defence Innovation Unit (DIU), and the Office of the Secretary of Defence (OSD) for the Indian Ministry of Defence and the U.S. Department of Defence (DoD), respectively.

The first edition of INDUS-X was held in Washington DC in June last year, coinciding with the historic state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the U.S. The event featured a joint showcasing of innovative technologies by Indian and U.S. start-ups in various domains such as maritime, AI, autonomous systems, and space.
