Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s former chief scientist, launches new AI company
Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), a new company founded by Ilya Sutskever, former chief scientist at OpenAI, along with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, aims to tackle the challenges of AI safety and the development of “superintelligent” AI systems. This venture comes shortly after Sutskever’s departure from OpenAI, where he had played a pivotal role in advancing AI safety measures.
The departure of Sutskever and Jan Leike from OpenAI in May raised questions about the company’s approach to AI safety. While Leike now leads a team at Anthropic, Sutskever has been vocal about the urgent need for research into controlling and managing AI systems with capabilities surpassing that of humans.
According to a tweet from SSI Inc., the company’s mission is solely focused on developing safe superintelligence through groundbreaking engineering and scientific advancements. The team, investors, and business model are all aligned towards achieving this goal, with a commitment to prioritizing safety over rapid technological progress.
With offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, SSI is actively seeking technical talent to join its team and contribute to the advancement of AI safety measures.
