I Survived the PTA – Here’s What I Learned

My Journey with the PTA

When my son started Kindergarten in the fall of 2020, it was not the typical start to the school year we had envisioned. With online classes replacing in-person learning, I felt disconnected from his school community. However, when the PTA reached out for volunteers to distribute devices to students, I eagerly signed up, eager to get involved and get a glimpse of my son’s educational environment.

As a former teacher, I understood the challenges educators faced during this uncertain time. This experience motivated me to join the PTA and give back to our schools and community. I became a room parent, organizing virtual events and supporting teachers in any way I could. Over time, I took on more responsibilities within the PTA, eventually becoming the president-elect.

Highlights of My Involvement

As president of the PTA, I collaborated with dedicated volunteers to enhance our school community. We organized events, fundraisers, and initiatives to support teachers and students. Despite initial apprehensions, I found joy in leading these efforts and making a positive impact.

Key Learnings

Through my PTA experience, I discovered the power of teamwork and organization. By working together with passionate individuals, we achieved remarkable outcomes and created memorable moments for our school community. I also learned the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing new challenges.

Ultimately, being a part of the PTA has been a fulfilling journey. It has allowed me to connect with others, contribute to meaningful causes, and instill valuable lessons in my son. I am grateful for the opportunities it has provided and the growth it has fostered in me.
