Houston Shooting Leaves at Least One Dead and Multiple Injured

A tragic incident unfolded at a family barbecue in Houston, resulting in one fatality and multiple critical injuries on Sunday, as reported by the police.

The shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. local time on Cherryhill Avenue, with officers responding to calls of gunfire in the southeastern part of the city, stated Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu of the Houston Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers encountered ongoing gunfire and numerous victims. The injured individuals were swiftly moved to a nearby Jack in the Box restaurant for assessment and transportation to hospitals.

Chief Cantu revealed that the shooting stemmed from an “uninvited guest” who arrived at the gathering. After being asked to leave, the individual began shooting, prompting residents to defend themselves by returning fire.

Chief Cantu emphasized, “The person responsible for this act was uninvited, asked to leave, and initiated the gunfire.”

According to the police, at least 14 individuals sustained injuries in addition to the fatality. Chief Cantu noted that several of the wounded were in critical condition and undergoing surgery.

As of now, a suspect has not been apprehended, and the police have refrained from disclosing any identities. Chief Cantu mentioned that multiple individuals were detained for questioning purposes.
