Hochul’s favorability falls below Trump’s among NY voters

New Yorkers Tough Crowd: Governor Hochul’s Favorability Dips Lower Than Trump’s

A recent Siena College poll reveals that Governor Kathy Hochul’s favorability rating has dropped below that of former President Donald Trump among likely voters in New York. Only 34% of voters view Hochul favorably, compared to 39% for Trump.

Despite Hochul’s efforts, including the elimination of congestion pricing and appearances at high-profile events, her unfavorable rating has hit 54%, resulting in a net favorability of -20%. In comparison, Trump’s net favorability stands at -18%.

Notably, a larger percentage of respondents expressed no opinion of Hochul (12%) compared to Trump (4%). However, Hochul’s declining numbers have not impacted Democratic candidates on the ballot.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand hold significant leads over their Republican opponents in New York, with Harris garnering 55% support against Trump’s 42% in a head-to-head matchup.

The Siena survey also highlighted that New Yorkers trust Harris over Trump on various issues such as abortion, democracy, and the economy. The debate between Trump and Harris had a minimal impact on voter preferences, with a slight increase in support for Harris post-debate.

In the suburban counties of New York, Trump holds a slight edge over Harris, while Gillibrand is poised for a decisive victory over her Republican challenger, Mike Sapraicone.

The majority of respondents expressed unfamiliarity with Sapraicone, highlighting the challenges faced by lesser-known candidates in high-profile races.
