An official investigation into the helicopter crash in May that claimed the lives of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and seven others has revealed that it was caused by challenging climatic and atmospheric conditions, as reported by Iranian state TV on Sunday (September 1, 2024).

The final report from the Supreme Board of the General Staff of the Armed Forces identified the main factor behind the helicopter crash as the complex climatic conditions prevalent in the region during spring, according to state TV.

The report also noted the sudden emergence of a dense fog mass that obstructed visibility and led to the helicopter colliding with a mountain.

No signs of sabotage were found in the investigation of the helicopter’s parts and systems, the report confirmed.

President Raisi, along with his foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, tragically lost their lives in the crash that occurred in a remote mountainous area in northwestern Iran.
