Has Your Android Phone Been Blocked By a Contact?
If you find that your texts and calls are not reaching your friends, family, or colleagues, it could be because your number is blocked. Unfortunately, the blocker may not inform you, or you may have no way to ask. Sometimes, blocking can also occur accidentally, which is why it’s important to know how to unblock a number on Android.
But what if you are the one who has been blocked?
Here is how you can check:
What happens when your number is blocked?
The first thing to understand is what happens when someone blocks your number.
If you try to call them, you may hear one or two rings, followed by a message stating that their number is unavailable. However, this does not necessarily mean you have been blocked; they may simply have ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode enabled. If their phone continues to ring, it means you are not blocked, they are just not answering for another reason.
When sending text messages, there is no clear indication. Your message will appear to deliver successfully, but the recipient will not receive it.
How to check whether you’re on a person’s ‘Blocked Number’ list
If you are on good terms with the person who may have blocked you, you can easily check if you are blocked using their phone (with their permission).
If they also have an Android phone, they need to open their ‘Contacts’ app, access the settings menu, and tap on ‘Blocked numbers’.

If they are an iPhone user, they should go to Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts.
If your number is on the list, it means you have been blocked by their device. By removing your number from the list, your calls and messages should be received by their device again.
How to check if you’ve been blocked from your own Android phone
If you do not have a way to communicate with the person you suspect has blocked you, there is an alternative method on Android devices to determine if your number has been blocked:
- Open the ‘Contacts’ app on your phone.
- Find the contact you believe has blocked your number.
- Back up their contact details or make a note of their phone number and any other information.
- Tap the three dots in the top corner of the screen.
- Tap ‘Delete’.
- Close the ‘Contacts’ app by long-pressing the home button/swiping up from the bottom of the screen and holding until all open apps are visible, then swipe ‘Contacts’ up and off the screen.
- Re-open ‘Contacts’.
- Search for the deleted contact using the search bar at the top of the screen.
If the deleted contact shows up as a suggested contact, then it is likely that they have not blocked your number. However, if they do not show up, there is a good chance that they have blocked you.
This method only applies if someone has blocked your actual phone number through their phone. If you are concerned about being blocked on another specific platform, refer to our guides for finding out if you have been blocked on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger.
