H2M-Mod shut down one 1 day before release after Activision cease-and-desist

The team behind the H2M Mod project has announced the conclusion of all activities following the reception of a cease and desist order from Activision, the publisher and IP owner.

H2M Mod, known for its enhancements and modifications to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, has decided to halt all operations to avoid potential infringement of Activision’s intellectual property rights.

In a statement issued by the developers, it was clarified that the decision to stop the project was taken in adherence to the legal order. The cease and desist notice arrived just one day before the scheduled release of the highly-anticipated mod.

The team has stressed that the cessation of activities is immediate and permanent.

“We are abiding by the order and immediately ceasing all operations,” stated the H2M Mod team on X. Despite the impact on the community, they have affirmed their commitment to upholding legal standards.

While no further legal actions have been mentioned, the H2M Mod team has made it known that they do not plan to continue the project or challenge the court order.

This event serves as a reminder of the stringent oversight exercised by major gaming companies over independent projects involving their properties, underscoring the legal challenges faced by mod developers today.
