Disney is kicking off 2025 with a touch of horror. In January, the second season of Goosebumps, based on the popular children’s books by R. L. Stine, will premiere on the service. These novels by the American writer tell tales of kids and teenagers embarking on various paranormal adventures, using their intelligence and bravery to navigate through them.

While Stine’s books were adapted for television in the 1990s, Disney has decided to bring a fresh take on the well-known horror stories. The new Goosebumps is an anthology series that presents a different story and introduces new characters each season. It is created by Rob Letterman (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu) and Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), who serve as writers and producers of the series.

The second installment of the show, now titled “The Vanishing,” promises to bring even more thrills and chills.

The character Anthony will be portrayed by David Schwimmer, best known to Friends fans for his role as Ross Geller. He will be joined by a talented ensemble including Ana Ortiz, Jayden Bartels, Sam McCarthy, Elijah M. Cooper, Galilea La Salvia, Francesca Noel, and Stony Blyden.

What will the plot of Goosebumps: The Vanishing be?

The upcoming season of Goosebumps takes place 30 years after the events of the first season in 1994. Anthony Brewer, a botany professor, is a divorced father whose brother vanished mysteriously three decades ago. When his children Cece and Devin come to visit him in Brooklyn for the summer, they uncover dark secrets and encounter old monsters that refuse to stay buried.

The season’s official description sets the stage for a chilling mystery involving the disappearance of four teenagers in 1994. The stories featured in this season are based on the books Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door, and Welcome To Camp Nightmare.
